Four young adults in Costa del Sol have been arrested in connection to a homophobic hate crime which took place in a busy area of Malaga centre.

The four men arrested are aged between 21 and 23 and they have been detained for allegedly committing a hate crime and for brutally assaulting another individual who is 26 years old.

The incident occurred at around 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday morning in the Plaza de Mitjana. According to the victim’s account, the four men approached him whilst he was walking with his group and began to verbally attack him for no reason. The victim contends that they began shouting homophobic slurs like “f*got” at him, because of his sexual orientation.

Then they pounced on him from behind, kicking him and punching him whilst he was on the floor. The victim also recalls being hit on the head with a forceful object.

He suffered from a dislocated shoulder and was treated with six stitches on his forehead, three internal and three external ones.
