Generalitat will part-finance €1 million facelift for 15th  century building in Javea’s old quarter

CASA XOLBI: Parts are in a precarious condition credit: Javea town hall

THE regional government included Javea’s Casa de los Xolbi in grants for rehabilitating urban buildings of historic or cultural value.

Once located inside the town walls at the Roques, Loreto and Escola crossroads, the exterior of the 15th century building which is now municipal property, remains relatively unchanged despite 18th and 19th century modifications.

Rehabilitating the building, parts of which are in a precarious condition, will cost €1 million.

The Generalitat’s Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture department is drawing up plans for restoring Casa de los Xolbi which should be completed this year.

The next step will involve obtaining 2021 Budget commitment for the project which, as this is more than €500,000, will be co-financed by Javea town hall.
