POLICE have been searching the River Thames in Sunbury-on-Thames for a man who was seen in the water after being aboard a boat.

The 30-year-old had been seen on a boat close to River Walk at Sunbury Lock, which is on the south side of the River Thames, when he fell into the water. The incident took place just before 7pm on June 16 and there were several witnesses, although no-one was able to find the man when they took a closer look.

Surrey Police were alerted to the incident and they have resumed their search today. A police boat and some specialist diving equipment have been sent to the scene and police drones are covering the area in attempts to trace the man.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said at lunchtime today: “Surrey Search and Rescue and specialist dive teams have been assisting the search, which recommenced on Wednesday morning.

“The man was last seen wearing a green and black camouflage t-shirt, grey shorts, and green Nike trainers.

“He is described as being a bald white man, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build with tattoos on his neck and wrist.”
