Unions at the factory said that a quarter of the workforce at a chicken processing plant are reportedly self-isolating due to a coronavirus outbreak in the facility,
Efforts to tackle the Covid-19 cluster are being treated as a “priority,” the 2 Sisters Factory in Llangefni, North Wales has said, its factory is one of the largest food producers in the UK, supplying brands including KFC and Marks & Spencer with produce.
Paddy McNaught, regional officer for Unite, described it as a ‘major’ outbreak at the plant on Anglesey, North Wales.
He added: ‘The company are taking this seriously.
‘Our stewards are working with the company on-site to put protective measures in place.
‘But there’s no doubt that people are very frightened. They’re concerned about bringing the virus home to vulnerable members of their families, and they’re concerned about creating a spike in cases on the island.’
The company also ships food to several supermarkets and works with brands including Fox’s Biscuits and Holland’s Pies. The 2 Sisters Food Group has not confirmed the number of cases, but 25% of staff are understood to be self-isolating.
