Health centres on Spain’s Costa Blanca warn of three month backlog of tests and consultations due to pandemic

Health centres on Spain’s Costa Blanca warn of three month backlog of tests and consultations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A SURGE in appOintments since the lengthy confinement coupled with tests which patients cancelled due to fears of attending consultations during the height of the coronavirus crisis has reportedly left Valencia health service with a serious backlog.

President of the Valencian Society of Family and Community Medicine (SoVaMFiC), María Ángeles Medina, warned “the pandemic led to some patients not attending outpatient clinics and postponing consultations; this has led to a significant number of visits, reviews and tests pending”.

Medina predicts that this “will not be a normal summer, but we cannot catch up in one day”.

She stressed “we will not be able to catch up in less than three months because of the accumulated work as no one from outside will come to do it, since there are no summer reinforcements yet”.
