CULTURAL DISASTER ON THE HORIZON FOR UK

Culture in trouble

Britain is facing a ‘cultural catastrophe’ with the loss of more than 400,000 arts jobs as a result of the coronavirus crisis, industry leaders have warned.

LATEST research published today projects that the creative industries could lose £74 billion, (€82.5 billion) in revenue this year.

The forecast is projecting that the pandemic could hit the creative sector twice as hard as the wider economy.

The research continued, speculating that the impact could be felt all over Britain, leading to the loss of one in five creative jobs.

Chief executive of the Creative Industries Federation Caroline Norbury was heard to say: “Our creative industries are one of the UK’s biggest success stories, today’s report makes it abundantly clear, without additional government support, we are heading for a cultural catastrophe.

“If nothing is done, hundreds of thousands of jobs could be lost and billions could be lost to our economy.

“The repercussions would have a devastating and irreversible effect on our country.”
