China sets up mass testing in Beijing in fresh COVID-19 outbreak

China is to set up a supersize testing lab as Beijing is hit by a second wave of coronavirus cases.

THE P3 virus lab will help medical teams carry out mass testing as the capital city reports 137 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last seven days and 31 new cases just today.

Wuhan had three of these labs set up in the height of the outbreak in February and it has the capacity to test 1,000 people a day.

Health chiefs have also sent a team of 14 medical staff to oversee the testing in virus hit Beijing.

It appears that most of the cases are linked to the Xinfadi wholesale market in the Fengtai area of the city.

More than 350,000 residents have already received nucleic acid testing since Saturday as the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention tried to get control of the situation.
