The first international flight full of eager tourists has arrived from Germany to the holiday island of Mallorca after three months of a tourism standstill.

SPAIN’S borders have been closed for almost three months; however, the Balearic Islands are now part of a test pilot which aims to welcome tourists back into the region.

The plane was organised by the famous TUI travel operator and consisted of 189 passengers, 20 of which were journalists, the remaining were German tourists.

The flight from Dusseldorf was the first to arrive this morning at the Palma Airport at 10.54, however, another flight from Frankfurt is expected to arrive later today.

This pilot plan in the Balearic Islands has been offered to a maximum of 10,900 German tourists.

Germans have an interesting love affair with the Balearic Islands, especially Mallorca. Many in Germany even refer to Mallorca as the 17th federal state of Germany due to the high number of German visitors that the island receives each year.
