Barranco Blanco, the well-known freshwater springs in Malaga’s Coin, has, unfortunately, had to prohibit any swimming or tourism in the nearby area as they attempt to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Closing access to freshwater bathing areas is one of the recommendations furthered by the Spanish Ministry of Health, which Coin has now taken on board.
Antonio Lucena, the Environmental Councilor has announced that the decision to close Barranco Blanca has been taken after having witnessed an “agglomeration of people in the area” over recent days.
Given that it is very hard to practice social distancing and avoid crowds of people in such a small area, the municipality of Coin has opted for prohibiting its use.
The new measure will begin on June 12 and last until further notice.
Lucena has expressed that he is “sorry” that this measure has to be taken but the “safety of residents and visitors is the top priority” and closing this area is the best way to prevent the spread of the virus.
