OVER the last 18 months, more than 5,000 documents, files and tourist leaflets have been added to the Municipal Archive.
These may now be viewed by the public by appointment, said Benidorm’s Historic Heritage councillor Ana Pellicer.
“A municipal archive is very useful not only for historic research but also for the functioning of the local administration,” she explained.  “In many cases it can help private individuals and companies with their activities.”
The archive now contains documents related to Art, Culture and Tourist Promotion between 1974-1978 as well as tax regulations from 1963 until 1991.
The archive also contains digitalised 12 official registers and the minutes of council meetings.  The earliest goes back to 1732 and they continue, although at irregular intervals, until 1903.
“These tomes are essential to preserving the history of Benidorm, but it is also important that they are available to the public,” the councillor said.
