Venice, Italy: violent hailstones in June turn the streets white

VENICE was hit by stormy weather and hailstones yesterday which, in just a couple of minutes, turned the city’s streets white as though with snow.

At around 16.30 on Wednesday, torrential rain hit the city and quickly turned to a violent hailstorm. Public transport briefly came to a halt due to poor visibility.

Locals commented that the city looked like a “Christmas card.”

Nearby beaches were also coated in white after the hailstorm.

The dramatic hailstones come on the heels of a rare high tide on June 4 which flooded St Mark’s Square.
