Suspect in the 2009 murder of a woman gunned down in front of her sons in Madrid has been arrested

A murder suspect on the run for 11 years after the shooting of a woman in Madrid has been arrested in Cáceres.

THE victim was shot dead by two gunmen while in her car with her two young sons in 2009.

One of the young boys was hurt, and the other uninjured.

The now detained suspect’s father was arrested months after the shooting, and remains in prison.

But Madrid Police Headquarters confirmed the son fled after the killing on November 7.

He was located in Cáceres where he was taking refuge at the home of a relative using a false identity.

Eleven years ago, the deceased mother-of-two was driving from Villaverde to Vallecas with her two children when her car was shot at by two gunmen who got out of two separate vehicles.

Police made the first arrest in January 2010, and have spent the last 11 years trying to track down the second suspected shooter.

The detainee has been remanded into custody awaiting a further court hearing.
