Six day search for crocodile seen lurking in a Spanish river called off

The search for a crocodile in Spain’s Valladolid has been called off after finding no evidence of its existence.

AFTER numerous sighting reports at the weekend, Local Police of Simancas and the Guardia Civil’s Seprona began an intense search of the river Pisuerga for the reptile, believed to have been one and a half metres long.

A Guardia Civil officer was among those who claimed to have witnessed the crocodile cruising the waters.

Drones and heat seekers were used, and a professional tracker was brought in on Monday to help with the search. He concluded tracks left behind were human and discarded half eaten fish were likely to have been consumed by an otter.

All the same, he said “that doesn’t mean the crocodile isn’t here.”

The area where the rivers Duero and the Pisuerga merge was cordoned off and members of the public were asked to stay away for their own safety.

Despite this, a swimmer believed to be drunk, dived into the water and a search began after he was not seen again. There have been no updates on his whereabouts.
