La Liga Boss expects More Player Swaps in Transfer Window

LA LIGA boss Javier Tebas has said today that he expects Europe’s major football leagues to consider direct swaps rather than big transfer payments as a result of the economic impact of coronavirus.

“The transfer market will be subdued. It is clear that there will be fewer direct cash transactions. There will be more player swaps,” Tebas told the media today.

He added that he didn’t expect La Liga’s transfer market to move more than €800 million compared to the staggering €3 billion that changed hands last summer.

Tebas ruled out blockbuster deals such as the world record €222 million Paris Saint-Germain forked out to pry Neymar away from Barcelona in 2017.

La Liga is set to resume today, after three months of suspended matches. The first match to kick off a rather unusual season will be a hotly contested derby between Sevilla and Real Betis.
