The French utility company, Suez, is currently monitoring the residual water waste in Costa Blanca, Murcia and Cataluña to see if there are any Covid-19 traces.

The water treatment company has developed a new tool which can measure and quantify the presence of the SARS-VOC-2 virus more efficiently or quickly.

The sewage is analysed in a lab and results are now automatically uploaded to a digital platform which allows scientists to manage and manipulate the data via a dynamic map of the municipalities.

This system is extremely helpful when trying to ensure that another outbreak does not happen again. Monitoring waste is an easy way of controlling the presence of the virus without having to come into direct contact with anyone.

The sampling process means it is random and can also help detect cases which are asymptomatic and that would usually not be detected.
