Sadiq Khan Calls for All London’s Slave Trade Landmarks to be Removed

Sadiq Khan Calls for More Government Support for Businesses in London

London Mayor Sadiq Khan today called for the removal of all slave trader statues in the capital city to improve diversity in the city’s landmarks.

Black Lives Matter campaigners have identified 60 statues in the UK they would like removed for ‘celebrating slavery and racism.’ The development comes after the Edward Colston statue was torn down and dumped into the Bristol Harbour on Sunday.

An interactive map is available named ‘topple the racists’ which includes around 60 plaques, statues and monuments in over thirty towns across the UK.

The list contains names such as Cecil Rhodes, Sir John Cass, William Beckford and Sir Thomas Guy. Activists are set to congregate at Cecil Rhoades’ monument in Oxford today at 5pm, holding up placards reading ‘Rhodes You’re Next’ and ‘Rhodes Must Fall.’

I assume they will also be calling for all Roman, Arabian, and North African statues to be removed as well as they also practiced slavery.
