The owner of the flat set fire to their ceramic hob when cooking and, thankfully, this only incurred material damage to the kitchen as well as some extensive smoke damage.

The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre alerted the firefighters of the fire at around 2:30p.m.

To ensure the fire would not spread, security forces closed all doors of the apartment and attacked the source with extinguishers. The smoke and fire spread to the extractor hood as well as to the tall kitchen cabinets. However, the firefighter team managed to suffocate this with substantial amounts of water.

Although the fire did not spread, the smoke reached the common corridors of the building and therefore an evacuation was conducted to ventilate the building. The operation was intense and took around an hour, fortunately no individuals were harmed in the process.
