Drowning Tragedy on First Day of Spain's Costa Blanca Beaches Allowing Swimming

El Campello´s Playa del Carrer La Mar.

A swimmer drowned on the day that some of Spain’s Costa Blanca beaches welcomed back bathers as part of the reduction in the State of Alarm laws.
THE 35-year-old woman lost her life at El Campello’s Playa del Carrer La Mar which was reopened along with the rest of the municipalities beaches to swimmers yesterday (June 1).
In common with those areas of the Costa Blanca that allowed people to go into the water, there were no lifeguard services, which are scheduled to start on June 17 under the normal schedule.
Fellow bathers noticed the woman in trouble yesterday morning and managed to get her out of the water.
One of them with medical knowledge managed to revive her, but she died after she was taken to hospital.
In another incident, a 22-year-old girl was also rescued in the adjoining area of San Juan.
She had difficulty in getting out of the sea, but managed to recover from her ordeal.
Key parts of the Costa Blanca like Benidorm and Torrevieja, as well as Santa Pola, are not allowing swimming at their beaches until later in the month.
