NATIONAL POLICE officers swooped on Elda’s Tafalera district following a tipoff that marihuana was being grown there. The raid followed confirmation by officers from the Judicial Police criminal investigation unit that the tipoff was correct, and that the growers had also made illegal water and electricity connections. This led to a search of three properties in the marginalised neighbourhood, resulting in two arrests and the confiscation of 26 kilos of marihuana buds and growing equipment. The detainees, both Spanish and both aged 61, were taken up before the judge on drugs charges as well as defrauding the energy and water supply companies.
