Just a ‘new normal’ day’ as Villajoyosa opens its beaches for swimming and sunbathing with a close watch on social distancing

AS Villajoyosa’s beaches reopened, the first day was pronounced normal by Mayor Andreu Verdu.
The beach was cleaned early that morning, while accesses and beach equipment was disinfected in a routine that will be repeated each morning and afternoon, said Beaches councillor Jose Carlos Gil.
The Local Police’s special security operative arrived well ahead of the public, with backup from Proteccion Civil and the DYA ambulance service.
A Local Police drone watched overhead to ensure that beachgoers respected social distancing, assisted by a mounted officer and the Canine Unit.
“We are convinced that opening our beaches from the first day will help to reactivate the local economy,” Verdua said.  “And as the beaches are one of our greatest attractions we have worked to guarantee their safety from the first day.”
