Looky Looky Man Spotted for the first since the lockdown in Fuengirola on Spain’s Costa del Sol

AS the paseo in Fuengirola opened its bars and restaurants for the second day in over two months, a ‘looky looky’ man makes his way ready to ‘flash the goods.’

Everybody is used to the ‘looky looky’ men by now, they have been a regular feature of the Costa del Sol and indeed Spain for years now. As the coronavirus hit home everyone was asking: “What’s happened to the Lookey Lookey men?” Well, one was spotted this morning walking along the paseo, in the opposite direction to the arrows I might add but that was probably the last thing on his mind!

Living in cramped conditions on the back streets of Fuengirola, the mainly Senegalese looky looky men have been in hiding for months. Sharing food and rent, they have started to carry on flogging their sunglasses and watches again in the hope of regaining lost income.

In general, the police have left them alone, maybe through compassion I presume, but also as they, the police, have their hands full monitoring that Phase 1 conditions are being adhered to!

Spain, I think, would not be the same without the looky looky men, the colourful and sometimes cheeky characters are part of the furniture…
