VITAL works on the mouth of the Almanzora river between Villaricos and Palomares to prevent flooding have now been completed.
Cuevas del Almanzora Council described the €1.4 million project as one of the most necessary in the municipality in terms of safety and the environment. The local authority said it resolved a major problem dating back to 2012, when major flooding totally destroyed the river mouth area.
The works will keep the river channelled and avoid future risks of flooding and destruction in the event of serious storms, the council maintained.
The project was financed by the European Regional Development Fund via the Junta de Andalucia.
