Child Sex Abuse Inquiry Launched by Spain’s Catholic Church Involving Assault Allegations by Priests

A major child sex abuse inquiry has been launched by the Catholic Church in Spain’s Murcia area, involving historic allegations of assaults by priests.

The investigation will cover the abuse of children and vulnerable people by clergy over a 60-year period in the region which is in the south-east of the country.

The Diocese of Cartagena says that the probe will look at accusations from eight potential victims, and that because of time span involved taking in the years between 1950 and 2010, a lot of work will be required to investigate.

The Bishop of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, said: “There will be no obstruction of any victims coming forward to us with information, and I have told the priests in the area that this is an important inquiry.”
