TEN Axarquia municipalities took part in the national study that found 4.4 per cent of Andalucia’s population are immune to Covid-19.
Families in Alcaucin, Benajarafe, Torre del Mar, Velez-Malaga, Benamocarra, Canillas de Aceituno, Colmenar, Nerja and La Viñuela provided blood sample for analyses to detect the antibodies demonstrating that a person has had, and recovered from, the coronavirus.
The tests are being carried out on more than 60,000 people from 36,000 households all over Spain.
In Malaga Province (population 73,000), investigators found that 4.4. per cent of those included in the survey had coronavirus antibodies. This was more than any other province in Andalucia, but lower than the national average of 5 per cent.
The names of local families were selected at random by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) and participation was voluntary, while in Axarquia those tested included staff from the towns’ primary health care centres were also invited to take part in the survey.
