Struggling Bars Hike Up Beer Prices Causing Outrage as a Customer in Spain is Charged €24 For 6 Beers

An image of a customer being charged €24 for 6 beers has gone viral on Twitter and sparked outrage at the high prices experienced by customers who have ventured out in phase 1.

After almost two entire months of strict quarantine, half of Spain has been allowed to go out and return to terraced bars or restaurants, given that they practice the correct safety and hygiene measures to reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus crisis.

Typically, Spain has been renowned for its dirt-cheap beer prices, however, since bars have been restricted accommodate 50% of its terrace clientele, it seems as if its prices have also risen 50% to account for this.

It is no surprise that bars have been struggling during this unprecedented time which has seen their whole sector be frozen since the beginning of lockdown. To make up for their losses an unpredicted factor of the crisis may be the increase of prices across bars in Spain.

The customer uploaded a photo of his receipt on social media platform twitter, expressing their outrage at being charged €4 per beer. The user says that if you are going to be overcharged for these beers, that it is best to “#StayAtHome”. Out of courtesy, they have covered the name of the bar.
