Spain’s Junta de Andalucia decides not to remove Emergency Service from Costa del Sol Town

The 061 service stays in San Pedro

WHEN work started on the building of a new health centre in San Pedro Alcantara it was decided to temporarily move the office and vehicles of the 061 Emergency Health Service to the fire station in the San Pedro industrial estate.

Then when worked was stopped at the health centre, it was announced that the Junta de Andalucia had decided to move the facility to Estepona to the surprise and distress of local residents.

A petition was quickly organised which immediately gained several hundred signatures as local people believed that they would be more at risk in a medical emergency if the paramedics had to travel from Estepona.

Now, Marbella councillor Javier García has announced that the San Pedro residents will have their wish and a plot of land will be made available in the Trapiche del Guadaiza area of the town and the new building should be ready by autumn of this year.

The health centre however still remains half built with the old centre which is run down, continuing to be used.
