Mijas police awarded for their treatment of those with mental health issues on the Costa del Sol

THE Local Police of Mijas has been awarded the Gold Badge within the framework of the ‘2020 Mental Health Awards’ organised by the Andalucian Federation of Family and People with Mental Health Problems (FEAFES) for its compassionate and humane treatment of people who suffer from problems of this nature, as reported on Tuesday by the mayor, Josele González.

This recognition “comes to support the great work carried out by the nearly 150 officers who ensure security in our city, and which joins others already received by our Local Police within the Guardian Officer programme, such as the award for excellence received just a few months ago by the Mijas School Absenteeism Programme at the 1st National Prizes for Guardian Officers,” González explained.

With these awards the federation highlights the work of people, institutions and the media working to reverse the processes of discrimination and social exclusion in favour of the recovery of people with problems of mental health and breaking down the barriers they face in order to fully help the social inclusion of the group, he noted.
