GUARDIA CIVIL officers rescued an 80-year-old woman after fire broke out inside her Moraira home.
Alerted to the fire by neighbours the officers reached the scene almost immediately as they were only 300 metres away at the time.
On arriving, the woman, the villa’s only occupant, explained that she was afraid the fire could spread to the garage where her car was parked and cause an explosion.
They controlled the blaze with garden hoses until the fire brigade arrived, but had to take it in turns to train the water on the fire as they were wearing only surgical masks and could withstand the fumes and smoke for only a few minutes at a time.
