Enjoy a Classic Silent Movie from the Spanish Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid

IF you are wondering what to do to keep yourself entertained during the lockdown when all forms of live music and entertainment have been postponed, the internet does give a wide choice depending upon your taste.

Founded in 1880 in Madrid, the Círculo de Bellas Artes which is a not for profit operation has been at the forefront of promoting the arts of all types including music, theatre, cinema, painting and much more but of course like so many other organisations has had to curtail all of its work.

What it does have however is an archive which features many of the performers who have been involved with the organisation over the years.

Picking just one video which is on their YouTube channel and was recorded in January of this year features the Trio Arbós who took the music of Stephen Prutsman a pianist and jazz improviser and have set his work to the silent film Sherlock Jr. starring Buster Keaton.

Although there are more than three artists taking part, the main members of the trio are Cecilia Bercovich (violin), José Miguel Gómez (cello) and Juan Carlos Garvayo (piano

It’s a pleasing way to watch the film with the musicians not just playing but booing and cheering at appropriate places.

Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCA7l9ORJp0 to enjoy the film which is almost 100 years old with music that compliments it perfectly and perhaps introduce youngsters to the fun of guessing what is being said on screen and joining in the fun.
