Backup for Policia Local and Proteccion Civil, credit: Alfaz town hall
THE UME, the Spanish army’s Emergency Unit has been cleaning and disinfecting the San Rafael residential area. Alfaz’s mayor Vicente Arques, stressed the importance of being able to count on an elite army unit like the UME in the battle to overcome Covid-19. The cross-department work carried out daily by town hall councillors required external help, Arques admitted, adding that he was “profoundly grateful.” Spain’s military and security forces are very close to hand, providing backup for the Local Police and Proteccion Civil, the mayor pointed out. “We want to transmit this message to the local population so that they are aware of what is going on while remaining indoors, which at present is the best way they can help.”
