BENEJUZAR Council has cancelled all of their major spring events including the month-long Moors and Christian celebrations due to start on May 23.
Fiestas councillor, Rosa García, said that the decision was because of the coronavirus crisis and the uncertainty over when the State of Alarm restrictions will be lifted.
“The priority is the health and safety of our residents, and we must focus all of our efforts on that,” García added.
The mayor of the Vega Baja town, Miguel López, said that the move was tough, but absolutely necessary due to all of the social and economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic.
Even once the State of Alarm is eventually lifted, López, admitted that a “return to normality would take time.”
