94-Year-Old Great Grandmother Becomes Oldest Woman to Beat Coronavirus in UK

A 94-year-old great grandmother has become the oldest woman to battle and defeat coronavirus in the UK.

JOY, who has asked for her surname to not be revealed, has returned home after battling the infection for nine days in James Paget Hospital, Gorleston, Norfolk.

Joy was thrilled by how helpful everyone at the hospital was. She has credited NHS staff for her amazing recovery, saying to them: “Thank you for the wonderful care. I couldn’t fault them for helping so many people.”

Her family, who described her as ‘amazingly fit and healthy for her age’ have now nicknamed her ‘Supergran’ and ‘Miracle Lady.’

Joy, who has three children, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, fell ill on March 20 at her residential home in north Suffolk.

She called the 111 helpline to report that she had breathing difficulties and a high temperature, and the call handler sent an ambulance to bring her to hospital straight away because of her age.

After testing at the hospital, it was confirmed that Joy had both Covid-19 and pneumonia.
