Spain’s Costa Del Sol Restaurant Owners Keep A Stiff Upper Lip As They Face Closures

Spain’s Costa Del Sol restaurant and bar owners are displaying stoicism in the face of closures.  Deborah Bolger Marks who owns Espresso Bar in Calahonda, Mijas said today “we just have to get on with it, our customer’s health is more important than my bottom line”.  She went on to say her “elderly customers are particularly vulnerable and as a local business owner I will do all I can to help them”.

Nigel Dobson who owns The Old School House restaurant in the UK but is in Spain at the moment said “I’ve got to go home and pick up the pieces.  I am losing big functions and parties but remember we will get over this, be strong”.

Andrea Gallacher Johnson who owns Legends Bar in La Cala comments “if I have to close after a huge refurbishment, gulp gulp, then hey ho as the saying goes, SO BE IT”!  Steven Saunders, owner of Little Geranium in La Cala, agrees with her and says “we are all in the same boat, I’m starting to wish we hadn’t refurbished but that’s life and we have to deal with it”.

Alison Hyatt, owner of the Blue Marlin in Torrenueva, comments that its “beyond belief” they will have to close.

Comments are coming thick and fast from customers who regularly dine on the Costa Del Sol.  Lynn Branagan Cronin who spends her time between Costa Del Sol and Ireland says “its a change of lifestyle for everyone here on the Coast and hopefully, lives will be saved”.

Marcella Hamrogue from Donegal, Ireland who visits the Costa Del Sol many times a year is upset she can’t fly to Spain for her usual holidays.  She comments it is a “short term (hopefully) pain, long term gain.  We are all in the same boat”.

Anne Hernandez, President of Brexpats in Spain, says we should be “congratulating Pedro Sanchez on his action, if the Spanish government considers it necessary to control the spread of the virus, like it or lump it, we must do it”.

These business owners, who will be hard hit by closures and their customers are showing courage in the face of adversity. There is certainly no lack of the stiff upper lip on this Coast.
