THE Diputacion de Almeria has approved an investment of more than €140,000 to guarantee the water supply in Chercos and Taberno.
Public Works deputy Oscar Liria revealed the projects for carrying out works in both municipalities have now been awarded.
A sounding will be carried out in the Paraje la Umbria area of Chercos with a view to supporting and reinforcing the existing water supply network.
The Diputacion said the new sounding “will complement the water flow extracted from the so-called La Majada sounding, the locality’s priority supply point, guaranteeing supply throughout the year and in periods when the municipality’s population multiplies.”
In Taberno the works will be concentrated on Avenida Murcia in order to upgrade the drinking and waste water systems, “as the current network does not function efficiently due to use and the passage of time”, the provincial government noted.
Both projects come under the Diputacion’s PIHA 2019 Hydrological Infrastructure Plan, a more than €2.1 million programme covering 20 projects in municipalities in the Almanzora Valley, Los Velez, Andarax, Filabres-Alhamilla and Nacimiento regions of the province.
The 2018 plan featured 17 other projects, with a total investment of €500,000.
The aim is to “substantially improve these municipalities’ water supply service”, Liria commented.
“Water is a priority objective for the Diputacion de Almeria, and these kinds of actions are important because with these we improve, reform and modernise the municipalities’ most basic infrastructure, improving residents quality of life”, he added.
