Spain’s national newspaper journalist tests positive for Coronavirus

El Pais, Spain’s leading national newspaper, has confirmed that one of its journalists at the Madrid office has been tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The journalist, who works for the newspaper’s magazine, Icon, is said to have travelled to Milan recently – one of the most high risk areas for Coronavirus in Italy.

According to the newspaper, the journalist is in contact with the health authorities and is taking all the necessary precautions, while she continues to work from home. The newspaper has also taken all necessary measures to prevent the contagion from spreading at the office.

According to internal sources, the company sent an internal memo advising staff of the new measures to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. It has also postponed all meetings, and has been sending home any members of staff presenting symptoms associated with a cold/flu over the last few days. In addition, staff members that are pregnant have also been sent home until further notice.
