A FERRIS WHEEL along the lines of the famous London Eye could becoming to Alicante, after British company Freij World Attractions put out feelers to Alicante City Council. Three years ago a Dutch firm visited Torrevieja with a view to checking out the option of erecting a giant wheel in the port area of the city, but the idea came to nothing. Freij have two decades of experience and claim to be the world’s largest operator of giant wheels. Their installations vary in character and size depending on where they have been put in, and the company is keen to emphasise that they don’t want to create an eyesore with a new installation. They say that two of their wheels are located at UNESCO world heritage sites, and their whole network acts as a major boost to tourism. Some of their current 25 locations include Dubai, Liverpool, Budapest, and Venice, and their wheels in range in size between 40 and 60 metres. The Alicante move from Freij is very much at the fact-finding stage, but they have asked the council over what kind of help they could give them over installing a wheel in the city. That’s in addition to the authority suggesting a list of potential sites which would give users the best views of the area.
