WORLD WILDLIFE Day last Saturday, February 29 was celebrated at Murcia ́s El Valle Wildlife Recovery Centre with a special series of guided tours of the facility. Though the World Day is Tuesday, March 3, the Centre brought forward its contribution by three days to give the best chance for people to visit them. The centre was started 36 years ago in El Valle y Carrascoy regional park and combines research with helping animals that need medical attention, which numbers well over a thousand every year. School trips are a regular part of the El Valle calendar, but pre-booked tours do take place at weekends due to popular demand. The big difference for last Saturday was that reservations were not needed, but the tours operated within a limited window starting at 10.00am with the last one at 12.30pm. The Centre deals with many different types of animals ranging from eagles to tortoises, and the guide will tell visitors about their background and the problems they face, in addition to what everybody can do collectively to help wildlife.
