A MOTORIST had a lucky escape after the road opened up beneath him in Calpe port at around 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, March 1).

Local resident David Stockton told Euro Weekly News: “There was excitement in Avenida del Port Calpe outside the Port hotel when a car driving over the road fell into a sink hole. Fortunately it was the front right hand wheel that went down the large hole, and no one was injured; just shocked at the sudden stop.”

The local police arrived on the scene shortly afterwards to stop and divert the traffic, before efforts were made to inspect and cover the hole with a metal plate.
