Hostage-taker surrenders after hours of negotiations
A 36-year-old man has died after he was chased down the street and attacked by an assailant wielding an axe in Partington, Greater Manchester.
Shortly before the attack at midnight on Thursday, the offender had caused significant damage to a number of parked cars.
The attacker later rang the police to report the incident before he fled the scene, Greater Manchester Police said, a cordon was put in place while the murder inquiry continued.
Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Kelly said: ‘This a shocking incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.
