Complicated matches for Under-19s on the Costa Blanca

ELITE ROUND: Under-19s officials visit La Nucia stadium

LA NUCIA has been chosen to host the 2020 European Under-19 Championship’s Elite Round on the Costa Blanca. Spain’s Under-19 national side will play for a place in next year’s European championship in Northern Ireland against Macedonia, Bulgaria and Belgium between March 24 and April 1 at the Camilo Cano Olympic Stadium. Santi Denia, the Under-19s’ trainer, and lower categories coordinator Francis Hernandez, recently visited the Camilo Cano stadium where the qualifying matches will be held. They were accompanied by representatives from the regional and provincial football federations as well as La Nucia mayor Bernabe Cano and the townhall’s sports councillor, Sergio Villalba as they toured dressing rooms, gymnasium, pitches and infirmary.
Spain’s Under 19s meet Macedonia on March 25, Bulgaria (March 28) and Belgium (March 24) at times not yet confirmed. Football fans will see Spain’s young promises, some of whom, like Bryan Gil, the Sevilla player now on loan to Leganes, have already made their First Division debut.
“We have chosen La Nucia because it has all we need to face this tournament as we do our best to qualify for this championship,” Francis Hernandez said.
“These are three very complicated games in a decisive tournament that stretches you to the limit with no margin for error.” Only the first of the four teams will go through and coach Santi Denia agreed that the tournament would be intense and difficult.
“We are going to prepare down to the last detail to ensure our classification options,” he declared.
