BENIDORM town hall’s equality department is organising a free course in personal defence for women living in the Costa Blanca town. Classes from Rangel Rangelov will be held in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the l’Illa sports centre from February until May, announced equality councillor Angela Zaragozi. The course, an equality department initiative, linked to Spain’s state pact against gender violence, Zaragozi explained. The women taking the course will learn practical exercises and will be shown self-defence blocking moves and control techniques to eliminate their fear. Women wishing to take part in the course can register at the Centro Social Jelena in Calle Olivos 11, or by ringing 965860226. “This course has been well-received edition after edition, with more participants taking part each time,” said Zaragozi, who added that many women take the course a second time to increase their knowledge of these techniques.
