OFFICERS working for the Local Police in Marbella have had some good news as the council has invested €300,000 to supply 210 new safety vests and 35 helmets as well as two new vehicles already this year. It is part of an ongoing commitment to modernise the local force which it is responsible for so that it can offer an even better service to residents and the ever-increasing tourist population. One major advantage of the new helmets is that they incorporate an internal communications system in order to increase efficiency and allow quicker response times. For officers, body vests are reinforced and there are options now for female officers to be able to wear properly designed versions to fit them more comfortably.

In the long term, there is a commitment to spend a further €600,000 in order to upgrade the vehicle fleet over the coming years and this can be afforded by leasing the vehicles rather than purchasing them outright as was often the case in the past. Plans are also on hand to increase the number of Local Police Officers employed by a further 24 to join the 11 who recently joined the brigade. The head of the Local Police Javier Martin on accepting the new material thanked the council for renewing the equipment as it would allow his officers to offer the most efficient service to residents and visitors in order to ensure their safety and security.
