Making a game out of lessons on the Costa Blanca

Alicante province primary and secondary school teachers recently attended a short course on videogames and “gamification” in Alfaz. Organised by the Valencia region’s Information, Innovation and Educational Resources Centre (CEFIRE), the course promoted the transformation of education, using new technologies and the gamification of learning in Alicante schools. This educational approach motivates pupils to learn by using video game design and game elements in a learning environment, the teachers heard. The goal is to maximise enjoyment and engagement by encouraging pupils to continue learning. Ultimately it aims to reward the student in tasks where there is no incentive other than the learning itself. Alfaz’s Education councillor Dolores Albero thanked CEFIRE for organising the course and encouraged the teachers who had attended to continue the gamification project and make learning more interesting and motivational for their pupils
