THE board of Amjasa, the publicly-owned company that supplies Javea’s water on the Costa Blanca, voted unanimously to modify its status. This will enable the company to take on new functions which include managing the town’s main drainage system. The company is meeting new challenges and increasing its volume of operations, explained Javea’s mayor Jose Chulvi who also heads the Amjasaboard.
“The town hall is currently preparing to take sewers out to the urbanisations and is drafting the regulations for their use,” Chulvi said. Amjasa is working on a project to reuse treated water for agricultural irrigation he added, and collaborating on solving the problem of flooding in the Arenal and Saladar districts.
The mayor also pointed out that the concession for the desalination plant expires in 2023 and it will be necessary to prepare for its future management. Owing to all these commitments, Amjasa intends to increase the size of its board which, in proportion to its annual budget, could rise to 15 members. Chulvi emphasised Amjasa’s capacity to adapt to all the changes in regulations introduced in the past few years as well its ability to face the crisis and the post-crisis.
“Results have been better than good without having to increase water tariffs by even one cent over the last 10 years,” the mayor declared.
