The City Council of Almuñécar is planning to change the lighting of 134 lampposts in the old town, replacing the halide and sodium vapor equipment of the “Fernandino” type luminaire with LED lighting. That will save at least 74% of energy, according to the mayor of Maintenance, Beatriz González Orce. The lampposts use 150-watt lamps, while the new lights use 40 watts, resulting in great energy savings. “The improvement would affect the environment and the lighting conditions of the streets, with the consequent improvement in traffic and citizenship safety”, explained González.
