THE Marina Alta Volta a Peu, a series of 10-kilometre races on the Costa Blanca, begins in Javea this Sunday, February 23. The town hall’s sports councillor, Alberto Tur, and Madelane Powell, president of the Llebeig Athletics Club, recently gave details of the race which this year sets out to be sustainable and environment-friendly. Activities linked to the Volta include an art exhibition using recycled plastic at the Casa de Tena and releasing a turtle, nursed back to health by the Fundacion Oceanografic, on Saturday, February 22 at 11am at the Arenal beach. Madelane Powell also revealed that the race’s refreshment and feeding stations will offer Javea’s typical Coca Maria cake and oranges instead of industrial bakery. Water will be distributed in Tetrabrik or from reusable cups provided by Balearia and filled from fountains and carafes provided by Amjasa.
