Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Pledges $10bn to Fight Climate Change

The world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos, has pledged $10bn to help fight climate change.

The Amazon founder and CEO said the money would finance work by scientists, activists and other groups.

He said: “I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change.”

Posting from his Instagram account, Bezos stated that the funding will be begin in the summer.

Bezos has an estimated net worth of around $130bn, meaning the recent pledge accumulates to 8% of his entire wealth.

In comparison to other billionaires, Bezos isn’t at the top of the list for philanthropy. His largest donation before the recent climate pledge was $2bn in September 2018 – to help homeless families and funding of schools.

Bezos received criticism in January when donated $690,000 to aid the victims of the Australian bush fires. The criticism was due to Bezos earning this figure every five minutes.
