95 year old Pensioner dies after a care home resident hits her over the head with a metal stick

May Miller, 95, died after being assaulted by a fellow resident just four days after moving into Beech House care home

May Miller, a 95-year-old woman, died after she was hit over the head by another resident at her care home.

She had earlier complained about another resident who kept coming into her room at Beech House care home in Halesworth, Suffolk. The person believed to have dementia, then assaulted her with a metal walking stick on February 9, just four days after she had moved in.

Her granddaughter Bonita Dickman, who was immediately informed said she was taken to hospital after the attack, which left her needing stitches and coughing up blood.

Later that day in hospital Mrs. Miller developed fluid on her lungs, and died on Sunday morning, leaving her family ‘in shock’.

The Partnership in Care, who run Beech House said an investigation is underway and added they were “shocked and saddened” by the assault

A spokesperson for the Care and Quality Commission (CQC) said: “CQC is aware of an incident at this service. As an investigation is still underway, we cannot comment further at the moment. All information CQC receives informs our monitoring and inspection programme.”
