THE National Police have made a public appeal for information on a man who attempted to kidnap a newborn baby from a hospital in Spain’s Andalucia.
CCTV footage has been released by investigators, showing the man entering the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Valencia Clinical Hospital at approximately 6.15pm on Wednesday, February 12.
The suspect had posed as a paediatrician and upon entering the ICU advised a new mother that her baby had to be taken away for tests. As he lifted the child out of its bed, the mother became suspicious as the man was not wearing any type of identification and asked him to stop. He then left the ICU in a hurry with footage showing him running out of the hospital.
The mother immediately alerted the hospital’s security who in turn contacted the National Police where officers were able to verify the woman’s story through analysing the hospital’s CCTV.
Investigators describe the suspect as being middle aged, possibly of North African origin, with brown hair and a beard.
As Euro Weekly News understands, anyone with information is asked to call 112.
