A 65-YEAR-OLD woman has been killed and a man has been seriously injured in a car crash on the MA 5104 in Costa del Sol’s Málaga in Spain after their vehicle plummeted some 200m down a ravine.

As reported by the Andalusia 112 Emergency Services, the fatal incident took place on Monday afternoon (February 10) when the Belgian national lost control of their Toyota Aygo rental whist driving through the rural road which connects Archez with Competa.

Units from the Guardia Civil, Fire Brigade and an ambulance were deployed to the scene of the accident, mounting a search and rescue operation. This was one of great complexity due to the car landing at the bottom of the riverbed and area’s steep terrain.

Firefighters were able to cut out the two occupants, however the woman who was driving the car was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband was also injured and transferred to the Axarquia Regional Hospital where he is now fighting for his life.

An investigation has now been launched to determine the exact causes behind the fatality. The victim’s identity has not yet been revealed.
